Jim,

Thanks for the reply. I hope you are right about the ability to upload flight plans as that will sure help make getting info into the 720 simpler.

My grip with the charts wasn't that I couldn't download what I need or want. I have the east coast (or did before the trial ran out) on my iPad. The trouble is, when I take a trip that is off the Washington DC sectional those other chats don't show up until I load them, just like on the iFly. I am going from KXSA to KALX on Friday. Somewhere north of Charlotte, NC I run out of chart even though the iFly iPad app knows my departure and destination airports. In FF I don't have this issue. I can pick any airport between the two airports based on time, fuel prices, or simply whimsy. On the iFly app I need to load the next chart to see what's there and I lose the previous chart.

Hi Don - Sorry, I don't understand. On my iFly 700 I have all 37 sectional charts downloaded to the unit itself. Actually, I think they are stored on the SD card. As I fly from chart to chart on my flights across the US, the next chart pops up as I fly out of one into the next. I flew just this last summer from Utah to Texas, to Florida, to Virginia, and back to Utah. I was never with the proper sectional showing on my iFly700. I haven't flown with my Android tablet yet but expect the same automatic chart selection will be built into that platform also.

Oh! - Wait a minute. I think it just strut me what you must be talking about. Are you talking about the way that the iFly units only show one chart at a time? Is that what you mean when you say that you must download the next chart? Ok. If that is what you are saying, yea - That would be neat to be able to zoom out and see the whole US (all 37 charts) at once. I don't think our iFly units have enough memory for that, though. But, I find that during my flight planning, the 'next' chart loads fast enough for me.

OK - I just reread your post and I think I'm correct in the above paragraph. Yea - I agree with you. If I plan a flight from Utah to Virginia, it would be nice to be able to zoom into the Omaha sectional to find an airport and town for the night. The vector map is better than no map, but the sectional shows so much more detail that is needed to decide where to spend the night.

Don and all,

We are currently working on taking our Hi-Def Charts to a "Seamless" approach. The iFly GPS software does automatically switch charts at this time, however you do see the borders. With the new approach, you would not see the borders, however they would still be accessible. Stay tuned on this upcoming feature.

FYI, we are also adding in Fuel Prices, FBO services, etc in the very near future as well. We have an understanding the many pilots like FF for their planning, and then iFly GPS for actual flight. We are highly committed to improving our planning feature set to make iFly GPS the best Planning and Enroute App.

Thanks for the great feedback.

Seamless charts will be a plus, but isn't something that really bothers me. If it doesn't switch quick enough to suit my fancy I push the switch chart button.

There were two things Don was asking about however that do seem very beneficial to me. One is the ability to plan your flight at home on the kitchen table on your ipad of android. Then, once in the aircraft transfer your flight plan from the portable device to the 720 via wifi. That to me is a great use of the two devices.

The second item is being able to file a flight plan on your ipad or android.

Tim,

We aim for iFly GPS users to be able to plan a flight on a tablet (iPad / Android) and share it wirelessly with an iFly 720 or another iPad/Android device.

We also have decided to develop the "File Flight Plan" option, allowing an iFly GPS user to File the flight using DUATs, etc on a Wi-Fi or 3G/4G cell connected device.

Both of these options are being developed hopefully in time for the Spring flying season. Stay tuned.

ps- I'll pass the chart switching time to Walter and on, maybe they can tweak it to switch just a bit earlier.
