It looks like the VST instrument is now defaulted to appear at 350 FPM, with no user adjustment. The manual indicates that the user can adjust this or set it to be always displayed. I'm not sure of the SW version that last had the ability to set it, but I have used this feature in the past, and now can no longer find it. (I've looked under Flight Plan / aircraft profiles)

My Christmas wish is to have this feature reinstated. (Or if someone knows where to find the setting please post it)

Thanks,

David

There is no such setting in ‘Aircraft Profile’ on the flight plan page of my iFly700 V7.6.22.

Jim,

Look for Target Climb and Target Descent rates. They should be on the right side of the screen. Walter said the VST uses these parameters for the alert to pop up.

Ah, I see those of course, I normally leave these set to 500 FPM for my flying. The current owner’s manual says the VST instrument ‘appears when the VST reaches a defined rate of descent’. What is the ‘defined’ value? I did some experimenting with the simulator. With my ‘targets’ set to 500 FPM, the instrument appeared at a value of -380. I changed the targets to 1000 FPM and it appeared at a value of -750.

The manual on page 32 says the VST instrument can be set for climbs or descents to appear all the time or at a setting from 50 to 1000 FPM. This may have been the case in the past but this facility is no longer available now. Either it should be made available again or the manual should be changed and hopefully give an accurate description of when the VST instrument appears in relation to the Target Climb/Descent rates. I'm guessing from what I observed that the instrument appears at 75% of the set Target value.

Good observation Jim. I normally make around a 500FPM decent as well, but I just wanted the VST instrument to appear sooner, say around 200FPM. So based on your observation of what triggers the VST instrument to appear, it seems that all I need to do is "fudge" a lower FPM decent setting in the aircraft profile, and turn off the alert function!

Thanks,

David
