It would be very convenient to have a way of skipping ahead (or back) in the Simulator when it's auto-flying a flight plan.
For example, last night I was trying to experience the EFIS view in real time of how a Real Plan flight plan would take me through 20 miles near the end of a 135 nm trip from central VA to W48 (Essex Skypark) without running afoul of the DC SFRA, some Class B airspaces, and a couple of Restricted areas--but that took forever at 100 knots because I had to sit through the first 100 miles of easy flying over familiar territory. I only wanted to experience a few minutes of it.
Yes, of course I could have reversed the trip and simulated the return trip. But I wanted to see how it would look in the EFIS heading northeast. I'd already flown more or less the same route many times heading SW. And I wanted to sit back and experience the ride without having to control the simulator manually. (I could also file a flight plan through the DC SFRA and possibly save 5 miles--but what's the fun in that when you're flying a slow amphibian over the Chesapeake Bay on a nice day.)
My workaround was to start the Simulator and have my phone timer wake me up after the Simulator had finished the boring part of the trip. But it would have been a lot simpler if iFly had let me fly that short part of the trip, back and forth, without having to screw around with the timer thing. And I could have simulated flying it several times in quick succession.
What would work nicely is to tap on the course line and have the simulator continue the trip from that point. No additional controls needed.
(Real Plan did very nicely, by the way.)
