Because I usually fly a small amphibian, mainly for the fun of it, but occasionally for long cross-countries, iFly's alert settings can be terribly annoying--because they're either alerting me of what I want to be doing for pleasure, or else they don't alert me to what I should be looking out for when traveling.
When having seaplane fun, I'm usually flying low, often below 1000 feet and below 100 feet over water, or landing where there's no airport. Down there, iFly's warnings about terrain and most obstacles are terribly distracting, so I disable them. (But certain hazards--especially wires--must be turned on!) To stay reasonably sane I've disabled almost all alerts.
When traveling, however, I'm just like any other cruising airplane, trying to keep clear of the ground and certain airspaces and avoid other aircraft. So then I have to turn the alerts on again--or re-configure them for cruising. Alas, I usually don't bother; it's too complicated.
So it would be very nice to have one switch to flip between "Cruise" and "Seaplane," with the sub-choice of the individual settings for each mode. I suspect that many landplane pilots would also appreciate such a switch for selecting other user-defined modes, such as "Normal," "Acro," "IFR," Pattern," and so on.
In both modes I'm looking for traffic, although traffic is usually more of a hazard when flying low than when cruising. That's where audio alerts would be very helpful if they're specific enough that there's no need to look at the screen (e.g., "Traffic converging, one mile, eleven o'clock, level").
