[I posted pretty much this same text in another thread from 2011 that hasn't seen any action since then. Having seen no replies from AP or anyone else to that post, I'm starting a new thread.]

I'm in the process of buying a new (to me) plane with four fuel tanks which require that I move a fuel selector switch. I went looking for the fuel timer option in iFly, and not finding it, went searching in this forum. Is it buried somewhere in the software or is there really NO TIMER? What are the other multi-tank pilots doing and why hasn't this been incorporated by now or re-requested since 2011? I know other EFB's out there have this. It's a pretty basic feature.

If liability is an issue, just have the user click on an acknowledgement that pops up when they add the fuel timer instrument to their layout that they will NOT rely on it to avoid fuel starvation (or whatever wording you want).

Just a timer that starts at zero when the iFly software senses that the plane is in flight (like the Flt Duration instrument does) so I don't forget to start it myself (which I will do), and bugs you every X minutes (set by the user) by flashing the timer instrument or doing a popup window. When the user presses on the flashing instrument or popup window then the timer starts counting up from zero again.

This is a big deal (to me, anyway) to not have this. Do I have to keep my Garmin Aera just to give me the "Switch Fuel Tanks" warning every X minutes? I was planning on getting rid of that now that I have iFly. Or will I have to install a separate timer (which I will forget to start/reset 90% of the time)?

If other people want this, I hope you put some replies on this thread. Is it just me?

P.S. You don't even have to call it a "Fuel Timer". You could just call it "Timer" or "Count-Up Timer". I mean, there's other uses for a timer that bugs you every X minutes, right? Heck, for that matter, make it a "Count-Down Timer". As long as it starts itself, does some kind of alarm-action, and is easily resettable.

Thanks!

I think a fuel timer would be good for people who need it. On the other hand, all we can do is put something on the wish list and hope it rises to the top. Some will, some won't.

Yeah, if you need it, you *really* need it.

I don't know if I was unclear about the other thread from 2011. I didn't start that thread, I just found it when I was trying to find any mention of a timer available in iFly GPS. So I posted a "me too" reply in there with a suggestion for how it might function. But no replies to my post, so I started this thread. I think there was some indication in that thread from AP that they would consider it for a future release. So I was shocked that 5 years later there's still not a timer function/instrument.

I'm guessing it's a low demand item. Otherwise, they would have addressed it. Seems easy enough.

Since we're not doing the programming and it seems so easy to us, I don't see the problem :) It seems like it would be an adaptation of the already existing Flight Duration instrument.

Since it would just be just another instrument that a person could add (or not) to their display it wouldn't be forced on anyone.

I hope someone from AP gets on this thread with an opinion on whether they're going to consider it (which they said they would 5 years ago). Since Shane is leaving is no one reading the forum? It's affecting my plans on whether to re-up my subscription -- and I'm not just saying that to get their attention. I may fall back to using Avare. I'm really disappointed -- a timer seems like such a basic feature.
