Aircraft Glide Ratio calculated NRST

Something to consider for the future... Being able to enter aircraft specifics that help you Identify possible landing locations based on your AGL and also Glide Ratio... The Ifly knows your AGL and if you enter in a glide ratio for your aircraft, then maybe the returned information Highlights those airports as a potential within your gliding distance....

Hi Wade - This has been discussed before. Do a search on it and you will find an interesting discussion. There are many other factors to consider with dead stick landings, such as wind direction and velocity, terrain, etc. When I'm flying aircraft that I am not sure of, I fly from field to field. - Jim Williams

Our latest version has this feature. Touch NRST, then hit the "!" [emergency] icon at the top/right. The list will re-paint showing all nearby airports, and the direction/distance barb will be color coded red/yellow/green based on glide-ability.

(You need to specify your glide ratio in your aircraft settings, the default is a fairly conservative 8:1)

Thanks Walter, On the ground all barbs stay black and distance boxes change to cyan when I hit the ! Tile... I'll give it a go in the air Thursday

Correct. On the ground glide isn't applicable, so they turn cyan. We're changing this to turn them all red when on the ground, just to make it a little more clear what the feature is doing.

You can also play with this in Simulation Mode (Menu / About / Start Simulation) - load up some altitude and speed, then try this feature.
