Took a quick look at the features of the Windows version of iFly...Out in beta now.

Looks good.  I was hoping that it would include something some of us have been waiting for:

A) Full desktop (or notebook) based flight planner compaitible with iFly in interface and features.

B) Ability, once plan created in the desktop version to migrate it into dedicated other iFly devices, ideally including iPads, but minimally into 720/740 etc.

Looks like we now have "A".

Was hoping that somewhere in the Windows version "B" also exists. Maybe at least manually copy a plan file onto the SD card for my 720? Yes? No? Maybe?

Of in the works?

Alex, there are several ways to get that data from your Windows computer to your iFly.

1) Local Share:  If you have all your devices connected to the same WiFi network, on the Flight Plan you can touch More Options -> Share with Local Devices.  This will push a message through the network to other devices, and they should prompt you to accept the flight plan.  This method is problematic as many routers, firewalls, and/or devices block this type of data burst, so it's not super reliable on all networks.

2) Cloud Share:  With our latest version you can enable an automatic sync of your data to our servers.  You can access this feature by touching Menu -> About -> My Account -> Sync.  You can upload from a device to our server, essentially backing it up.  Or you can download from any of your other backed-up devices.

3) Manual: You can manually copy flight plans and other files from your windows computer to your iFly device.  The default location for your flight plans on your windows computer is C:\_iFlyGPS_Data\User\#FlightPlans.  Copy any files from here to your SD card \User\#FlightPlans folder

Thanks Walter.

I'll probably go for  option 3. Among other reasons, it is rarely convenient , sometimes out of the question, for me to have the 720 on any network, and I'n of the gereration where moving data between computers on 2.5 inch floppies was the state of the art and pure luxury compared to earlier options. 😏

And migrating a plan only worth the hassle when it's complex, because every iFly device's built in planner is so slick any easy for simple two or thre point flighs anyway.

Don't forget that *IF* you have an ADS-B In device such as Stratux in the plane, you can have all your devices on the Stratux network and share plans "on the fly" (see what I did there?).   That's what I do with mine - create the plan on the tablet or phone, file it, and then once in the plane I can use the Stratux network to share it to my 740 which is on the yoke in front of me.  Then I reverse the process and make the 740 the "master" so that any plan changes I make "on the fly" gets shared to the others.  With Adventure Pilot selling Stratux's so cheap, it's worth the price just to have plan sharing while airborne.  But wait, that's not all!  With the Stratux, you'll also have traffic and weather displayed on all devices.  WIN!

A cheaper but totally boring option is to buy a portable, self-powered "pocket router" that's about the size of a cigarette pack.  TP-Link makes several; I think they run $25-$45ish dollars.  Keep it in the plane and you can easily use it to connect all devices and share a plan (internet is not required for plan sharing; only a network).

Like Pappy used to say, "There's more than one way to skin a cat, but the cat doesn't like ANY of 'em".
