Is it possible to force iFly Connect to replace an up-to-date aviation database that is corrupt? I needed to replace a corrupt db, but had to resort to the old create a download package method to make it happen, since I didn't see the option on iFly Connect.

David,

We have to make a simple tweak to the SD card in order for Connect to replace the Static Databases. Our next updater page for the iFly should have an option to force a Database update. Follow the below steps to replace the databases on your iFly.

  1. Put your iFly GPS SD card in your PC.
  2. Open the Static Data folder on the SD card.
  3. Locate and delete the file named staticdataversion.txt
  4. Now run iFly Connect again, it should include the databases in the update list now.

Caution: do not delete other files on the SD card. Deleting the wrong file can cause major problems. If you are not comfortable performing the above steps, please wait and call us on Monday in the office. I hope this helps.

Thanks Shane, the alternate method of creating an update package with the aviation db in it and then installing it, seemed to work fine. I just like the iFly Connect route as it is more straight forward. The tweak will be much appreciated.

It's actually already built into the new updater page that is on the iFly GPS App. This is being developed to work on the iFly 700 and 720. I agree, iFly Connect is super easy and the preferred update method.

Some people have a little bit of a hard time with the USB update method, but that is also a way to replace a file that doesn't show on the Connect list. Glad you got it replaced. Stay tuned.

Have a good evening.

Is anyone having problems downloading the newest Aviation Database? I've downloaded all of the updates, but the Aviation Database fails and retries. It starts at a low percentage and keeps increasing until it reaches 90-92% then retraces to 50-52% and repeats without finishing. I first noticed that the update wasn't working and it took a little bit to figure out it was hung up on the Aviation Database. I deselected it and then the rest of the update completed. I'm not sure if it's my card or if the newest download is corrupt. Help Bob
