Hi Guys,

My update screens are crowded with things I don't use. My SD is full of lots of data I will never access.

When I first got my 720, I customized the 4 GB card by tediously deleting maps and other stuff using the menu on the 720. Since then my unit had a problem and was replaced and by then I had moved to an 8 GB SD card.

I only fly local VFR and only need northeast and some surounding states. Is there a way with iFly connect or some other interface to delete Alaska and west of Missisippi river? When I had a 4 GB card and upgraded program versions I was prompted to make room by deleting by area. Can I access that delete function directly without running out of space.

The only programatic way is the tedious detail delete screen on th 720 menu. How about just deleteing files on the SD card? Will that work?

Brian:
Yes, you sure can delete maps, plates, diagrams directly from the SD card by plugging the SD card into a card reader then plugging the reader into a USB port on your computer. You can then navigate the files structure to open folders and delete un-needed map, diagram, and plate files in one swell foop! That said, having all those files on your SD card does not slow down performance one iota - they just take up space. If you don't want to deal with updating them there is an easier way: when you run iFly Connect, deselect all the files, then select only the ones for the area(s) in which you fly, then SAVE that set-up in iFly Connect for future updates. It's that simple and easy. ===Ralph

I'm not sure I understand what you're trying to do, so I'm not sure you're going to get answers that help.

The end of your note asks for help deleting stuff of the SD card, but it's unclear why. An 8GB card is big enough to hold everything, so there's no need to go delete anythinhg.

Your first sentence says, "My update screens are crowded with things I don't use." So...is your real goal to scale down what's presented to you during the update process to make that simpler? Deleting files off the SD card isn't going to help with that.

Could you clarify what you're trying to do?

Ralph,

Thanks for the suggestion, I never understood or tried "saving my selections". I'll give it a try.

Thanks

Cobra,

I was interested in two things:

1. To reduce the number of screens and time to download and update sectionals and such while in wi-fi mode. With a full set of files you get 4 or 5 screens worth of items each time you use update. Yes you can deselect all items and then page through those 4-5 screens looking for the 10 states I cared about each time. While I am doing this I am sitting in the plane using my fingers. This is awkward and time consuming.

2. My 8 GB SD card only has 1.3 GB left with all files and the latest program level. I want to put PDFs and music on the card and I will never ever need Alaska or the western states. I want to save the files on my hard drive and then delete them from the SD card without harming the the 720. But was hoping there was a built-in way to pick areas like Alaska, Southwest, Northwest, etc. for group deletion.

Thanks
