Guys,

I really like my 720 but there is one thing that I was wondering if it was possible. I like that we can get the airport info by pressing hand holding a finger over the airport but I am a bit old school in that I like to have a piece of paper to refer to. My question is:

Can I download the airport info from the 720 and print it as a reference? I find that things happen fast in my Thorp T18 and I can't be going from screen to screen when I'm close to the pattern. This way I would be able to preprint the info and refer to it when required.

Thanks,

Jim Mantyla

I'd like to second that suggestion! Use the right tool for the right job is what I learned in my "old school". Pencil and paper are still great tools in the coclpit. - Jim Williams

Both Jim's: I agree that it is prudent to have a paper backup in the cockpit in case it is too turbulent to bring up the info with a tap on the screen, or worse, the iFly is "unavailable." What I like to do prior to flight is download and print the airport diagrams with full info in kneeboard format from AOPA at http://www.aopa.org/airports/. Just type in the airport identifier, hit "GO", and when the page loads, you will see a button to select "Kneeboard Format." It even prints the "current as/of" date on the chart. Then I simply stack them in order of my flight planned route. Enjoy. ===Ralph

Hello Ralph,

Thanks for the link. It works but I am up here in Canada and fly in areas that the US sectionals currently cover. The problem is the FAA link does not give info on the Canadian airports covered in the US sectionals. Hopefully this is somehting that can be released in version 8?

Best regards,

Jim Mantyla

Jim: One of the great flying odysseys I have been blessed to experience in my Tri-Pacer was flying through 5 Canadian Provinces on the way to Alaska (and back) from Ohio: Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, British Columbia, and the Yukon Territory. It was spectacular, and the natives could not have been more kind and friendly, ehhh? Had to be double certain about entering the correct waypoint names in the GPS - Dawson CREEK, not Dawson; Haines JUNCTION, not Haines, etc., there's hundreds of miles difference between them with very little civilization in between. And the Nav Canada controllers and FSS staff were superb. Glad I did it and hope to do it again. ===Ralph
