I have a 720 + SkyRadar, which I purchased for weather awareness, knowing that there were limitations to the ADSB traffic alerts without an "ADSB out" transmitter in the plane.
However, I know that if I'm in an area with another plane that has ADSB out, I might happen to get traffic alerts. I also noticed that Ed said in a recent post, "In terminal radar areas, all traffic is displayed, but outside (about 77nm from the radar antenna) traffic reports depend on someone in your immediate area with an ADS-B transceiver to "wake up" the broadcast station and transmit traffic." I didn't know that in terminal radar areas, traffic info was always broadcast.
I have never seen a traffic alert on my 720 (or on the 700 I had before that), even though I'm based in the Houston area and many of my flights start and/or end by traversing the busy I-10 corridor between HOU and IAH.
What does a traffic alert on the iFly look like? Is it possible I've been getting traffic alerts, but didn't know it, or was in the wrong mode to see them displayed?
