Walter - Apologies if I'm cross posting in multiple threads, but for my 700:

6.0.8 - NMEA worked perflectly with my Dynon D10A Efis/Autopilot

6.5.6 - NMEA became intermittent

6.5.9 - I have neen unable to get it to work.

No change in cabling (original iFly Cable with Pin 2 removed). On 6.0.8 I used 'extended' on the ifly and 'auto detect' on the Dynon. With 6.5.6 the same setting resulted in intermittent. Changing specifically to 9600 baud and the 5 Dynon specified sentences made no differene - still intermittent. On 6.5.9 neither setting approach yields anything on the Dynon.

Alasdair,

It's possible there is still a software issue. But it's also possible it's a problem with the OS, iFly hardware, cable, or the connection to your Dynon. The next step is for you to call our support desk and talk with Ed, maybe he can help narrow down the issue. If that fails we'll need you to send your device back to us so we can duplicate this on our side and find the solution.

Thanks,
Walter

Hi Walter,

I have been having success on my '700 with version 6.5.6 NMEA output, based on two recent flights of about one hour each. Today I loaded up 6.5.9, bored a few holes in the sky, and again no joy with any usefull NMEA output.

After my flight, I brought the '700 and the iFly serial cable home for a little closer look at how the serial output of 6.5.9 compares with 6.5.6. I used a terminal emulator on my PC to view the data feed from each version, and they don't look the same. I have my '700 set to output only messages GPRMB and GPRMC.

Using version 6.5.6, I get a clean output of each message alternating each on its own line, but when using 6.5.9 I only get one continuous GPRMC message repeating, with no <CR> or <LF> to seperate the message updates. GPRMB is nowhere to be seen.

I am emailing the output files to you for your review. Scroll as necessary left to right to see all of the 6.5.9 output.

David

David - Very interesting. Nice detective work!

I no longer have a PC or laptop with a serial port (USB only). What cabling are you using to do that?

My EFIS needs the following sentences GPRMC, GPRMB,GPGGA and one of GPBOD or GPAPB. I doubt it's a hardware or cabling issue since under 6.5.6 the EFIS did get a signal but I experienced occasional brief interuptions (and under 6.0.8 it was rock solid) . Since 6.5.9 I have been unable to get anything to show on the EFIS at all. I have tried both 'advanced' and 'custom' settings with the above sentences specified. This result would be consistent with missing GPS sentence information.

Walter - Thank you, I'll give support a call. As always thank you for the amazing product and support.

The connection between the iFly serial adapter and the computer serial port is very simple to make: using two DE-9 (often refered to as DB-9) female plugs, connect pin 5 (signal grd) to pin 5 of each. Connect pin 3 (transmit data) on the iFly adapter to pin 2 (recieve data) on the computer end.

The reason for the missing GPRMB message on the 6.5.9 test turned out to be that there was no active course set. (Thanks Walter) I have rerun the test today with an active course set and both messages now appear, but still all in one continuous message, unlike the 6.5.6 data which has individual lines for each message. I have emailed the log from this test for Walter's review.
