I recently got my plane back after an engine tear down (6 months). I downloaded all the latest software/charts/maps etc at home. The 720 ran perfectly at home. I took a flight to Myrtle Beach from WVa. When I tried to start the 720 in the airplane, it was DOA---wouldn't boot up. Battery showed good. Even tried direct power to 12v plug... nada. I put it in the box and used my 430 and 396 (weather in route). Once arriving in MB, I plugged the unit in with 110v power and it booted up perfectly. I then switch to the battery--again booted up perfectly. I was scratching my head. On the return flt from MB, I hooked up the 720 again...same problem...wouldn't boot up. Then my co-pilot started fiddling with it and discovered that if she jiggled the cord between the battery and the unit, it booted up. We we able to make the trip home on the ifly although it dropped power several times (moved the cord) and had to re-start. My first thought was a cord problem. Although I don't know why the 12v cord direct to the 720 didn't boot up either. btw, the unit is less than a year old--replacement for another unit that went dead on me.

The second problem on this trip was with the iLevil. I tried to use the ilevil but could never get ads-b information. I went to the wifi page and connected to ilevil but never received any data. I tried several times before I put it in the box. I've never got any use out of the ilevil with the 720 since I bought the ilevil unit. There always seems to be a problem. In contrast, my copilot had her ipad and stratus which always boots up perfectly and connects seamlessly.....

I am flying to pittsburg today so I will test the system again....so far my conclusion is that the ifly system is not reliable; I never know when it will work so I carry my 396 (still active with weather).

Any clues you can provide will help. How do I get the 720 to give me ads-b data--is there a trick or special procedure?

tks

We are sorry for any frustration here. It sounds like you have a couple things going on here. First power up the iFly using the AC plug and then the DC plug, without the battery inline, be sure to gently wiggle the cord to help detect and short in the wire. A bad Battery link cable will show this "sporadic booting" with AC, DC or direct battery. Removing the Battery helps isolate what cord might be bad, or show if it is a bad power plug at the unit.

As for the iLevil, make sure you are connected to the WiFi and that now other networks have a (PRE) to the right of the network name. Disconnect from all (PRE) networks and ensure the iLevil is connected. Then launch the Navigation and touch Menu, About, Connected Devices and set the WiFi Device to the iLevil ADS-B, be sure not to set it to the Levil AHRS, as that will only show AHRS data. That is a one time initial setup step that is critical.

This should get you resolved and up and running. Please give our support team a call on Monday as to your Power issue findings. I hope this helps.

Shane, tks for your quick response.... update:

We flew to Pittsburg today as mentioned this morning. We've got the Ifly power figured out so that it works. We have to jiggle the cord between the battery and the unit. We can deal with that ...most probably a bad cord or connector on the 720.

We tried the ilevel again...same problem. We go to the wifi and click on ilevel. It connects quickly but says "PRE".... We tried disconnecting from ilevel and rebooting...same thing, we show connected to wifi on the ilevel but the ilevel says "PRE". Is this what we want to happen?

Wow!!! sitting here in Pittsburgh while writing this response, we followed your directions and finally got the unit to connect by going to menu => about => connected devices => wifi => iLevil ADS-B. Apparently the default sets the ilevil to Levil AHRS. I am excited... that is a pretty tricky differentiation.... but now that I know, I'm good to go.

Thanks for the great service. Another problem solved.......We are flying home tomorrow so I'll be able to check it out. I can deal with the cord issue until I talk to your folks.
