As it turns out, the "Reset Altitudes" option will only show up if you have more than 1 altitude specified in your plan. If only one altitude for the entire flight, you won't see this option. It's a bug, will be fixed in 9.9.

Until then, use this method to clear your altitude: Touch OPT next to the waypoint that has an altitude specified (typically the first item in your plan), touch "Clear", then "Done".

Final note: I discovered a bug while researching this request...after clearing the altitude, the calculated ETA and fuel burn being shown in the flight plan is incorrect. We're looking into this now.

Thanks Walter. That was a strange one. One minute it was there, the next minute, it was gone.

This bug has now been fixed for 9.9 and will show up in the first beta release.

Fixes made:
1. Added "Clear Altitudes" option to menu, which clears all altitudes and closes the form.
2. Fixed the bug Walter mentioned.

In the meantime, the best way to clear the impact of Winds is to Slide the Time Bar all the way to the right. There are no bugs with using this method.

Sorry about the bug!

I'm confused with the solution. First, if the altitudes are cleared, is there then a "default" altitude? 3,000 ft maybe?

2nd, does clearing altitudes also clear the winds data? If not (and I don't think it should), then the resulting calculation will still include winds aloft at the default altitude, and the original question was how to exclude winds from the calculation.

3rd, if the winds ARE cleared, is there a way to get them back? I see this as a "start over" solution, and I would still want my new "what if" altitudes to include winds.

4th, which screen are you closing, the altitude planning screen? I would want it left open to input new altitudes.

5th, in addition to the slider on the altitude planning screen, maybe there should be a button on the flight plan screen that toggles the winds. That way, you can toggle to the desired mode without going to the altitude planning screen.

No response necessary; just some things to consider.

Hi Jeff, I'll state things more explicitly here. If you have Multiple altitudes, you'll see "Reset Altitudes" which sets it back to the default Single Altitude mode. Then, if you select Options again, it'll now show (v9.9) "Clear Altitudes", which then clears them entirely and closes this form and goes back to the Flight Plan form -- NOTE, this is the way flight plans start out initially, with no altitudes specified. If you then re-open the Altitude planning form, the default altitude is again applied and shown. This new option is just a way to clear the altitudes from your plan, and reset it back to the default state (with no altitudes).

Otherwise, everything else is the same as it is now. Hopefully this fix is intuitive and achieves the end goal of providing Pilots with a way of clearing all altitudes from their plan.
