I'm evaluating running iFly for on my Surface Pro 3 in an Android virtual machine (DuOS) and it seems to be working very well. I have a couple questions:

* The weather does not appear to be automatically updating like it does on my iPhone. Is there a manual way to force the update?

* Is there mechanism to share data between the iPhone version and Android (like flight plans, plane profiles)?

* Is there the ability to plan/file a flight on one device and activate it on the other?

* Is there an ability to use my own Lockheed Martin account for filing as opposed to what I assume is iFly's corporate?

thanks,

dave

Anytime you do a data update, the WX, TFR, and Fuel data will automatically update. Not sure why that isn't updating in the background through the emulator...

Not yet, but it's coming soon

Yes, when you are on the iFly's "File" form there is a line item for "Account Name" - just fill that in. Subsequent filings will automatically populate that field.

It seems to update regularly if iFly and Duos are active and I haven't jumped to another Windows app. If I minimize Duos (and, hence, iFly) or move to a Windows 8 app this seems to stop the background updates. How about adding an option to force a weather update on the Menu dropdown?

Thanks -- works great!

[Changed the thread title to broadly discuss iFly on the Android DuOS Virtual Macihne]

I'm by no means an iFly expert but after several days of evaluation it looks like all core functionality of iFly works quite well on the DuOS VM on Windows 8.1 tablets. There are only two issues I've discovered:

* Weather Updates don't seem to happen automatically unless

* Unable to connect to Skyguard units

The latter might be a big issue for some but my intended use of the Surface Pro 3 is to replace my iPad 4 (which had no GPS or connectivity) so I have no loss of functionality. The Surface really acts as my on-the-ground planner then serves as a backup to my iPhone which is a backup for my Garmin 795.

Just a note to iFly. You might want to consider evaluating DuOS or another Android VM on Windows as a supported platform for Windows Tablets. This would increase your platform coverage and, with the plethora of 2-in-1 Windows boxes available this could be an emerging form factor for aviation software.

Dave,

We actually have plans to support Windows natively, so no emulator needed. I haven't assigned a date for that yet, but it's getting closer to the top of our todo list.

Thanks!
Walter
