I was going to demo my iFly for iPad for some friends on a cross country trip this morning, but to my surprise with all charts up to date, and my subscription renewed for both '720 and iPad prior to expiration, I was unable to get past a message that my trial period had expired. My account has almost a year left for both devices.

After landing I went on line with it and got the same message, but was allowed a 5 minute grace period, so I updated my iPad, even though nothing was expired. Now it is not giving the trial version expired message, at least while connected to the web.

I now wondering if that fixed it, or do I wait and find out on the next flight?

If so, does the iPad app require you to update it after renewing a subscription that I never let expire?

David

David,

I suspect you haven't logged in to the app. Make sure you are connected to WiFi. Touch Menu, then Obtain Subscription. Enter your email and password for the iFlyGPS.com site. Then touch Login. This links your iPad with your account.

We are sorry for any frustration this might have caused. Have a great weekend.

Shane,

Thanks for your quick reply! I was logged in, because I was able to see my account info today. What I am suspecting is that the iPad had the expiration date from the last time I updated it, which was before my last subscription expiration date. I renewed my subscription by phone a few days before it expired, but had not had any need to update the iPad again before today's flight. Maybe this is a bug?

I remember a couple of years ago, I let the suscription on my '700 expire, and while I couldn't update the maps, of course, it still continued to operate with the expired maps and approprate warnings. It seems the iPad app just doesn't work at all if it thinks your subscription has lapsed. This could be a real problem under some circumstances.

Thanks,

Dave

That is so odd. I've looked at your account and everything is set correctly. I even see your iPad device ID is paired to your account. Give us a call on Monday and we can go over some things.

Shane,

This problem has happened to me numerous times also. Works as advertised for days and then I will get the "Server Communication Error" screen to obtain a Trial License even tho I have a subscription.
I created a flightplan last night at home and today at the airport it failed me; and those of us with no iPad data plan are rendered SOL at the hanger then.
Fortunately I have another app to use but this really needs a fix.
Simply logging in fixes it. Why does it lose our info?

John
