After 60 years and 8000 hours I am no longer flying so no need to renew my subscription due 30 November.

I'll miss it...A LOT...but all things end.

I have valued having IFLY to guide me through my aeronautical adventures.

John,

Wow, that a lot of flying time and a lot of years doing it safely!

What were your favorite parts of flying?  I am sure you will miss it and the flying community will miss you, but going out on your own terms is the way to do it right.

Best wishes, Mike in Carlisle

Mike:

I had a little tear in my eye as she lifted off from KAJO Corona, Ca to fly to Hendersen Texas.

My group, The Coyote Dawn Patrol did all the things then that Trent Palmer and the Flying Cowboys are doing today.

Flying into remote grass strips and camping out. Having a nice libation while staring into a campfire.

We did one flight from SoCal to OSH. What a blast! And we met some really nice pilots at each field we visited on the way.

The group flights were the fun part by has faded away as we all got old. Some died, some got health issues and some moved away. At 85 I was the only one left standing.

Fortunately, I have many of our adventures on DVD and can view them from my rocking chair.

I have really appreciated having IFLY to guide us on our adventures, My subscrition runs out at the end of November,

On the positive side, I will have an extra $8,000 per year expendable since no hangar fee, bi annual fee, conditional inspection fee, AVEMCO insurance cost, $6,00 avgas, etc,  All worthwhile while the group was flying together.

Take care and safe flying to all aviators.

John

John, you probably know about the UFO--United Flying Octogenarians--made up of pilots who have flown as PIC on or after their 80th birthday. It's a great support group for ancient aviators. UFOPilots.org

Thanks for the memories, John!

You did some incredible things with your plane and have a lifetime of experiences no one else will have, save a few of us still here and enduring all the costs you mentioned to keep flying.

There are costs...but we pilots tend to rather measure the VALUES of flying, so thanks for reminding us of those by listing all the unforgetable things you did with your plane!

We have a small flying club here (Carlisle, PA) where we try to do the things you did - and for the last 15 years we've been at it, posting over 1,000 flying trips between the Atlantic and the Mississippi River...sometimes just two planes and sometimes 10+ but always fun.  We find it's more fun to fly with others...and it keeps you flying if you find the right mix of men and women who enjoy it.

Hope you still find the time to visit airports and catch a ride sometime...

Mike in Carlisle, PA
