I don't know if the attached timetable is accurate, but it indicates the last WAC chart became obsolete 3/29/18.  If that is accurate, I strongly suggest iFLY remove all WAC charts and remove the automatic switching to WAC charts when zoomed out.  I'm sure we don't want pilots using obsolete charts for any purpose.

Tim,

I respectfully disagree.

I like looking at the WACs to see weather patterns for long range X-C's without having to scroll around sectionals.

I also enjoy using the WACs for long-range X-C planning to get "the big picture" at times with regard to terrain, major cities, major clusters of special use airspace, etc.

Do I use them for navigation? No. They are like having a wall map that many of our FBO's have and do not keep updated...they are just there for refrence and the "big picture."

Yes, there will come a day where you get your wish and they go away - and that day is coming soon, but I will miss the WACs very much!  I know I am probabaly alone on this one, and that's ok!

Technical question for anyone in the know:  Are the WACs being completely discontinued as an aid aviators, or are they just not being printed?

Mike,

You are not alone, and you made a very nice description of how I use the WAC's on my desk top computer.  I'm all for keeping them just for reference, as the sectionals are too cluttered for the uses you described.

You just made my point. How do you know the special use airspace is correct? iFly can find another alternative to using obsolete charts.

The plan as it stands now is to continue to use the WAC charts when zoomed way out, and in areas like the Alaska corridor where there are no sectionals. We're looking at pushing the zoom level that it switches at further out so you get the sectional longer, but VFR sectionals don't read well when that small, so there's a balance we need to strike before we go all the way out to the VFR Planning Chart.
