I have the same "problem" of it centering in the middle of the U.S. instead of my house. I'm running on a Win 7 desktop that has no GPS inputs.

Try this: drag your home airport under the cross hairs in the middle of the screen, then go to Menu / About / Start Simulation Mode. The after a few seconds, stop the simulation mode. You should open up at your home airport now.
