I have few questions about the NavWorx ADS600-B and the iFly.

First, is it compatible with the tablet version of iFly?

How well does it work with the 720?

Finally, is it compatible with any other EFB applications?

Hi Tom,

Absolutely. The NavWorx ADS-B works great with the iFly GPS App (Android and iOS) and iFly devices. It uses WiFi if chosen as an option, so there is not issue like with the Dual 190 etc. Depending on if you are installing in an Experimental or Certified aircraft, will determine what model you need. Both are 978-Out and 978-In Transceivers, but please know that they are shipping with the 1090 receiver installed, just not enabled by NavWorx yet.

The 720 and 740 are the top dedicated units to use with the NavWorx, you can connect via WiFi or using a Serial cable as well, for those that want to avoid WiFi in the cockpit. Performance is solid on both the 720 and 740, but you will notice the new 740 being a bit more snappy with ADS-B. With that said, the 720 effortlessly shows Nexrad, Metars, TAFs, Traffic, Pireps, Airmets, Sigmets, TFRs and more, it even uses the GPS position from the NavWorx as a redundant location source.

A key benefit for installation is that the NavWorx uses one antenna for the Out and In, so there is no need to multiple antennas. The are pros and cons to each side having a dedicated antenna, but none are currently confirmed.

Also, the NavWorx is compatible with iFly GPS, as well as many other apps and devices like WingX, FlyQ, Naviator, etc, but why would you want to use anyone else. :-) You simply can't beat the value, development effort and service you get from iFly GPS. I'll leave that to others to comment on.

Don't miss the Labor Day Special we just posted. A email is on it's way out to customers as well. You can save $100 of the ADS-600-B and maybe even $500 more if you get in on the FAA's $500 "Certified ADS-B" Rebate, starting later this month.

Please feel free to contact me at 888-200-5129 to discuss ADS-B and your specific installation.

Is the performance siginificantly enhanced if connected with a serial cable versus wifi?

It's really a connection type preference. Some do not want wires and some are concerned with WiFi interference in the cockpit. There really is no performance benefit to using the serial cable. If anything WiFi supports a higher data transfers rate.

Using WiFi for the ADS-B leaves the USB port open to pump out NMEA data to an autopilot, GPS enabled ELT or Fuel Flow if you have one or plan to add one.

You also gain the ability to have multiple devices running iFly GPS connected to the NavWorx which then allows for the "Share with Local Devices". This allows you to toss a flight plan between devices and even have rubber-band route mods show on the other shared device. It's a pretty cool feature that lets you plan on one device, i.e. iPad, then go to the plane and toss that plan to your iFly 720 or 740 or other tablet.

Also, it's a modular WIFi on the 600B model so it can be added later if you want.

I recommend the WiFi on the Navworx --- I have the EXP model in my RV-6A (my -7A buddy has the -B model). The WiFi enables me to run (2) iFly 740s and an iPad running iFly software, for weather and traffic. I have a complete IFR panel (G650, G430, PSA 8000BT and G327 transponder), using the Dynon D10A as my PFD/EFIS/encoder and the Dynon EMS 120 engine monitor and TruTrak autopilot. I have had no problem with WiFi interference or other issues.

edit: Also the Navworx is supported by WingX, and FlyQ for weather and traffic.

Fly Safe!

Ron
