Hello Adventure Pilot team,

What is the stance from AP on the new ruling by the FAA to change the settings for the ADS-B out signals, thus rendering portable UATs possibly unable to provide the intended traffic and weather info. How is AP planning to address this? I would like to get the UAT package offered on the website but I am now hesitant to pull the trigger on it. Thanks

Sam Washington

Non-certified ads-b out will no longer trigger the ground stations 1/4/16 or after.

Thanks Old Pilot, that was how I was reading it also but I wanted to hear from the AP guys on how they plan to address it with the portable systems that they are supporting.

There is nothing for them to address. You need a certified ads-b out if you want to trigger the ground station. The latest Skyguard units will work until 2020 and possibly after. Older units can be returned to Skyguard for update for $50.

Having ADS-B Out allows you to be seen by others that are properly equipped, and that reason alone justifies the price of admission for some.
