I cannot keep the unit working for more than 11 or 12 mins. on battery power when the screen is at full brightness, even though the unit is advertised to work on approx. 30 mins. This occurs with and without GPS lock and with the network turned off. With minimum brightness, I can get closer to the 30 mins. Any suggestions? (Tests were done several times after a full battery recharge, ie. hours or overnight).

Question: Is the 30 min of battery life supposed to be at min power or at max power? Also, after turning the unit off, the screen brightness returns to full bright. Perhaps returning to the last setting would be beneficial.

FWIW, when I checked mine it seemed to work for only 18 minutes, and IIRC those 18 minutes were with the unit just sitting there while I read a book or something. Perhaps it would deplete the battery quicker if the unit was changing pages, and doing other tasks. While I would like the battey to last longer, it was made clear, at least as I recall, that it was only intended to keep it running long enough to go from power supply to power supply without having to be in too much of a hurry. It also seems that it doesn't charge when plugged in but turned off. I haven't checked this specifically, but I seem to remember a time or two turning it on after it was plugged in for several hours, perhaps over night or more, and the battery level was at something less than full.

Have'nt had the problem with it not charging but there is another nuissance that comes up all of the time and that is that the unit, upon disconnecting from a power source, it just dies without warning. Does not happen all of the time. The issue with 10 min or so of battery power is not a problem under normal circumstances but flying and loosing your battery could become an issue.

FWIW, I don't think I've ever gotten the advertised battery performance for any device I've ever purchased--laptop, cell phone, portable radio, etc.

+1 on Cobra's comment. I assumed it might be good enough power to get me through an unintentional disconnect and thats about it.
