The times I have seen it the event last only a couple of seconds. It would flash warning and I think I caught a extreme rate of descent. It would clear itself within seconds. I would suspect bad GPS data. I experienced this a few time on a trip from the SF Bay Area to Las Vegas a couple of weeks ago in my Grumman AA-1B, with a bubble canopy. Maybe better averaging the rate of climb or descent over an appropriate period of time would reduce this. I just upgraded to the iFly720 prior to this flight...

Just a note to report that I have the same issue. Flying at 3000 AGL over South Florida got a 500' message then terrain alert. Happens almost every flight. Doesn't bother me much but it does get the passengers attention :).

Yes,

This will happen if there is an extended period (several seconds) of incorrect altitude data from the GPS. But it should be rare. If you see this often I suggest you consider an external antenna. And we will look at increasing the buffer time before popping an alert.

Thanks,
Walter

Thanks Walter,

FWIW - I've only encountered this since swithching to the 720. It is located in exacly the same place as was my 700 under the bubble canopy of my RV6.

I encountered it shortly after getting the 720 also in my bubble canopy Grumman AA1B on a 7 hour round trip flight from the Bay Area to Lost Wages (Las Vegas). It probably did it 5 or 6 times that I caught. I did not fly the 700 enough in the Grumman with the 7.5 load to say it did not happen there also. I also had just started flying using the Portait mode with the unit mounted on the yoke. My Vegas trip was under very smooth flying conditions, and I caught it happening when there was no movement of the yoke.

Love the portrait mode by the way.....
