Greetings, all! I was in a RedBird simulator this morning and was using my iFlyGPS app for charts and such. I was wondering if simualtor tie-in where I can get is a feature that's supported? For example, iFlyGPS gets its GPS data from the NMEA output coming from the simulator.

No, I don't think there's a way to do that.

The only sim integration I'm aware of that folks have successfully accomplished is with X-Plane, and I think that involves a 3rd-party piece of software to glue it together (but I have no first-hand knowledge so could be completly mistaken on how it works).  There are threads here from people discussing it in the past, but unfortunately the search function on this forum leaves much to be desired, so it may be difficult to dig up.

I don't think it's applicable to your question, though--I don't think the solution used for X-Plane is easily adapted to other sims.  I think X-Plane built interfaces to support such integration, where other sims have not.

I personally would love for my CFII's Elite ATD to integrate with iFly, but it doesn't.

Hmm, perhaps the iFly team would build a feature to allow the simulator function to "listen" for an external NMEA stream on either UDP multicast or unicast (or TCP stream)? *wink* *wink* :) So many integrations could blossom!

Don't think it would work with an iFly 7XX, but it should work with an iPad or iPhone running iFly.  My EAA Chapter has a Redbird FMX we just got up and running and it has a "Bad Elf" GPS Bluetooth unit that is suppose to be set up to transmit the simulator GPS data to Apple devices via Bluetooth.  I am told it works on IOS devices only, not android.  I have not tried it yet.

Although this may also be of little use for your particular situation, iFly GPS works in MSFS with an addon (Xmapsy v3.2 is the addon - it shows other air traffic as well)
