Like the HUD eyeglasses, I'm not understanding the Demand (as in Supply and Demand) for a custom EFB for flying. Isn't this a step backward? I mean, when Garmin came out with its dedicated GPS EFB's (the Aera, for example) it was cool. But it was awfully expensive, especially for a tool that could only be used in the cockpit.
Even if a new EFB were "only" $200, why would I spend $200 on a unit that I could only use in the cockpit, instead of using that $200 on a nice tablet that I can use both in and out of the cockpit?
And even if a new EFB were only $100, I can see myself not bringing it home, and so not charging it up before the next flight because I can't use it at home. (Although I suppose I would bring it home to do preflight planning. But then it's one more tablet to lug around.)
Not sure you're on the same page, here, Mike--"iFly EFB" is the name of the new iFly software that makes a break from the custom iFly hardware. The EFB software will not be associated with a new custom hardware device--it will only be available on Android, iOS, and Windows.
