John, that sounds reasonable when you're using a tablet temporarily and as a supplement to the airplane's own instruments. But as soon as you think about installing a device in an airplane even semi-permanently, then having to "cover the tablet screen... to keep it from overheating" becomes unacceptable. It's more a toy than a serious instrument. That's what's so good about the 740/740b. It's a serious, reliable device. You turn it on and it works all day in direct sunlight and never gets washed out or goes dark. It's dedicated to aviation.

On the other hand, Adventure Pilot's email this morning (Monday, the 19th) hints at several new and exciting developments--the most interesting of which is a HUD.  If that can display iFly GPS or EFB effectively, it might truly change AP's game and supplant tablets as the primary display device.

OK Brolin, One last specific question - it is getting down to decision time for me.

If I got a Tripletek Android tablet and fabricated a panel mount for it, would the USB port on that unit output the needed NMEA data for my Dynon EFIS and autopilot?

If not, will the adapter that you refer to be hidden and not visible as well as being hardwired?

Thanks!

Hold that question for a week after our partners make their announcment

Speak up, Brolin. Are you trying to say that the 740b isn't going away? (heh)

You've probably noticed that most reactions to the Big Announcement have been from people with iFly hardware installed in their airplane or who are in the midst of deciding on what hardware to install. I can't speak for others--but MY view of the Big Announcement is necessarily different from you guys who are developing all this nifty stuff you're hinting about. Sorry, but I'm more interested in my airplane than in your software, however nifty it will be. Hype and intimations can be unsetting; so I'll wait for the facts.

That was just a simple yes or no question... is the device hidden and hardwired, not WIFI or bluetooth.

Also... what additional capability? I did not hear any additional features for the 740. Am I missing something?

All of the devices need to be panel mounted or very secure in my craft. I am not content to be straight and level all of the time ( no tablets, pads, or laptops floating around!
