Walter. Let me ask if there is a difference between an "FAA-published" airport diagram and an "Airport/Facility Directory" airport diagram. I ask this because I have had some confusion with the fact that there are airports with diagrams but they're not "FAA-Published" so they are not a candidate for geo-positioning.

I initially assumed all airport diagrams were FAA Published but I'm getting the feeling there may be others that are non-published but included in the AFD for convienience. That may explain why one of the airports I asked about has a diagram but AP says it's not an FAA-Published diagram and not a candidate for georef.

Straighten me out on this if you could.

Diagrams in the AFD are basically thumb-nail sized images of the airport and runways, usually not enough detail to warrant an attempt at georeferencing. I'm not even sure if they are drawn to scale and/or have any information that could be used to create a proper georeferenced image.

There are about 900 airports with actual published diagrams; these are the diagrams you receive if you purchase theTerminal Procedures Publication. You can also download them directly from the FAA here: http://aeronav.faa.gov/digital_tpp.as....

Hello Walter,

I also have problem with the regular Airport diagram. my home base is RHV and I know it does have Geo-Reference Airport Diagaram as I have seen it on Garmin, Flight Cheeta, and I pad. I thought perhaps it was glitch on the first release, so I updated again and down loaded the digarams the latest dated 10-20-11.

Still no change, can't see the plane on the tarmac. Is there special instruction I am not aware of? I have followed the two steps noted on this site.

Yes, RHV has an airport diagram. And it appears to be geo-referencable. This one falls into the 5% that are not done yet. Hopefully our data provider will get this one fixed next cycle.
