Greetings,

I came to the forum to ask a very similar question.  I like to update my 740b at the hangar, via wifi hotspot, but the whole download of new data takes a long time, mostly because it downloads so much data that I don't need or want.  I end up bringing the unit home when the full download is needed, and just let it do weather and TFRs at the hangar.  Even as I type, approach plates, and IFR charts I will never use are downloading.

Is there a way to set a download default, so it only checks for new data on the states, and data type that you care about?  It seems like it must be possible, but I haven't figured out how.  I tried clicking the hundreds of lines for states and data that I didn't want, hoping that it would remember that, but the next time I connected, there it all is again.  If this isn't currently possible, it would be high on my list of feature requests.

Thanks,

Rusty

Are the iFly device updates different than those for a tablet or phone?  IDK.  On a tablet or phone, you simply tap "Check for Updates" and iFly GPS remembers the states you have previously selected.  You can then tap "Advanced Options" to select the data types you want.

Yes, it's different.  The way it works on the Android phone is exactly as you described.  It remembers the states, and the data type you selected, which is excellent.

The iFly device appears to default to all states and all data types.  A screen comes up showing what's different, and literally pages of lines of data you can select or deselect.  I had hoped that going through the tedious task of deselecting the ones I didn't want would allow it to remember that, but next time I needed an update, I got everything again.  I still feel like I must be missing something, but I sure can't find it.

I just fired up my 740, and went to Menu>Check for Updates.  iFly shut down and went to the Update screen, and although the only thing available was Weather & TFRs, the bottom of the screen had:

A box to Select/Deselect All,           An indication of the number of Items Selected       And the Download Size

Below that are four buttons:

Cancel                Save Selections                Fast Wx/TFR update       Install Selected Items

If your 740b is set to download ALL states, plus Wx & TFR's as well as new software updates, you should be able to, at your hangar, "Deselect All", then just check the State(s) you want, and the Weather & TFRs then click on "Install Selected Items".  This should download just what you selected, and retain the choice of ALL the states, etc. when you bring the unit home and have the time and ability to download all the additional information.

You can absolutely deselect all, then select only what you want.  The problem is that it didn't seem to remember that, even when I tried the save selections button.  It just works much better on the Android version.
