Hey all...
I just got my iFly 740b installed, and it's working great with my autopilot and other gear. However, there is one small disappointment that I have with the unit. When I got terrain and obstacle audio alerts working, I found that instead of voice alerts like my previous Garmin 496 (which calls out "obstacle, or "terrain"), the iFly alerts are just ping-like beeps, that get closer together as you approach the obstacle/terrain/airspace, finally terminating in a loud brap-like alert.
The issue I have with this, is that all the alerts use the same sound. If I hear an alert beep, I have to look down into the cockpit at the iFly screen to see what the alert is actually for, taking my eyes off where I'm going. If I hear "obstacle" I start looking for towers; if I hear a beep I am looking at the iFly, instead of looking out at where the threat actually is.
Because I fly at fairly low level most flights, only fly VFR, and don't want to have to keep looking down to see what the alert is, I have turned off terrain alerts on the iFly, so if I hear a beep it's only going to be for an obstacle (or airspace, but those more rare). It would be nice if the alerts used different tones, or better yet voice call-outs like some other units use. Is this possible?
