I'm currently in Day 3 of my 30 day trial of iFly on my Samsung Galaxy S2 Tablet. I have it coupled with a Stratux ADS-B unit I recently put together. It's pretty nice and I'm happy enough with it that I'm strongly considering the ante-up to a subscription (previously using the free Avare app). However, I'm using it in a very simple manner for situational awareness and I'm not sure I need the features of the IFR plan. I simply use it to observe ADS-B Nexrad radar in relation to my route and look at weather in the vicinity. I have other, more powerful and FAA-approved navigation sources with which I do everything else.
- I DON'T need IFR charts (SIDs, STARs, Approaches, Low or High Enroute)
What I would like is the ability to put SIDs and STARs in the flight plan for positional awareness. Approaches would be nice, too, but not necessary.
Is it possible to load SIDs and STARs in the flight plan without having the IFR plan or are these features suppressed for VFR-only subscribers? Also, are V, J, and Q airways all still loadable on the VFR plan?
Thank you for your time.
I'd like to add that the idea of Sectional, WAC, TAC, Low Enroute, and High Enroute charts that are geo-referenced are pretty cool, gee-whiz type stuff. But the real power of apps like this is in the Vector Map. You guys need to sell that a little harder. The demo pics on the Google Play Store don't emphasize this nearly enough. I made some suggestions regarding the decluttering at zoom levels and what should be presented as you zoom in on another thread.
