To be safe, you need to shut down the Stratux program then shut off the power.  You can save a link to the shut down command on your phone or tablet so it's a simple matter of one click to shut it down.  To set it up, on your phone or tablet go to 192.168.10.1 and find the shut down command and save it on you home page or anywhere you want it on your phone or tablet.

I seem to remember discussion on here somewhere that a program could be written, (actually it was already written and available on a web site somewhere), and placed on the SD card which will perform a safe shutdown using a hard switch connected to the RPi.

I'm sure one or more of the RPi experts on here can confirm or not my recollection.

If you got to 192.168.10.1 and disable logging, does that make the Stratux more-or-less read-only as far as the SD card and therefore offer some protection from card corruption?  I know nothing from personal experience with the Stratux but I've read that the SD card corruption risk is greatest if it is not read-only?

Not really.  The Raspberry Pi that Stratux runs on is a full-blown (ok maybe more like a poquito-blown) Linux computer.  Like any computer, they prefer to have a proper shutdown procedure as opposed to a toaster that can be unceremoniously unplugged.  However, Linux is far better at recovering from power-induced errors and the chance of getting disk corruption from pulling the power is really quite small - such that the Stratux developer, who's probably pulled the power ten times more than the next closest user, has never had a disk corrupted from pulling power (and still pulls power to shut down).  What most people are calling "corruption" is actually the disk space filling with files, and runs out of room for the operating system to, well, operate.  Deleting these excess files will allow the Pi to work again as-is, but most people re-image at that point, convinced it's "corrupted".

Well I didn't build and program my Stratux.  I bought a built one from Flight Box, Steve Soskel.  I never had these shut down problems as I believe Steve programmed in a shutdown procedure.  Why cannot the homebuilders of Stratux get this program and incorporate it as Stratux is open source software and firmware. When I shut down the avionics master switch both the, 740 and the Flight Box shut down immediately. I am still trying to grasp where the problem is on this shutdown problem you all are having. Both my 740 and Flight Box run on 28 volts right off the avionics master.
