Spoke with FreeFlight Sytems support today and I am receiving a reflection (secondary target) of myself which is the ground stations producing a TIS-B off of my xpndr ( difference in altitude of 500 feet or less with no ID). I do know that non-equipped ADS-B craft with at least a Mode C xpndr are relayed as targets which is nice, but were talking out of the blue less that 500 foot targets. The FAA is working on an update to the ADS-B software system at this time. In the mean time, I am going to set my encoder to 10 foot increments ( IFR) and try and reduce the altitude differences if any between the encoder and xpndr ( GTX 327). I'll fly this weekend, take notes and we'll see. Also, any changes the FAA makes with the TIS-B echos will help indeed; the question is how long will it take! There was also a mention of the "Moving Map Software" capability of digesting the data correctly being sent from the 978 Ranger UAT, but that is way down the road after the FAA ADS-B system update.
