We did a multi-stop trip last week and on the return home I finally managed to figure out a few things about the timer, its pretty unreliable and inconsistant.
I found on stop one that it went to 0:00 as soon as we dropped below 20mph....thats what it did prior to version 5 as well. Our stop was a drop off without stopping the engine or shutting off power. Next stop was a full shutdown and fuel stop. Timer once again went to 0:00 when the speed dropped below 20mph but much to my surprise the timer restarted at the correct elapsed time (did not include the unpowered time) when our speed went over 20mph. It continued to our next drop off stop with no shutdown and while it went to 0:00 as the speed hit the limit it restarted when we went back over the limit. We had a total of 6 stops with 4 of them being full shutdowns with power off to the unit. The last stop was a dropoff and the unit once again reset to 0:00 and no going back to actual elapsed time when it restarted.

I guess my question here is " how is the timer supposed to work, why isn't it being consistant (or am I doing something wrong?). At least in the earlier software versions I knew it would reset when I landed and do it at a time I was too busy to see the time. I'd sure like to see the timer have a user start/stop function.

On the same trip I found a number of times that touching the screen to find a distance to a point would work most of the time but others nothing would happen. I tried light touch, more pressure, taps and fingernails with no luck. Each time it did this the pan function was working fine and the screen seemed to note the contact but didn't pop up the distance or acknowledge the query. Hitting the follow plane key then re-panning to the point and trying again normally worked but on occasion still had trouble. I've had the problem on bumpy days and smooth as well so I don't think its the wild jab problem caused by bumps....

Once again I'd just like to know if I'm screwing something up or if this is just an oddity. Neither of these issues is earth shattering, just mildly annoying. The Garmin 196 doesn't even get turned on anymore so I'm happy with this one.....

Thanks

Frank

I have a new 700 & have had simular experience with the flight durration. On landing it goes to zero before I have a chance to look at it. (still on runway)

Took a 55 min. trip. It started up, but as I approached the destination (50 min.) it only showed about 18 min. Trip home seemed closer to actual time, but it went to zero before I had a chance to check it at landing.

I had one flight where it did stay on after I left the runway, but all other flights it is zeros before I have a chance to look at. it.

Very happy with the unit so far. I guess I could delete the flt. dur. from the screen & I would do away with proble.

Ver. 5.15.

Thanks for posting this feedback on the flight timer. We are aware that this feature is somewhat simple, it was designed so that during your flight you could check and see how long you've been flying. The timer begins when you exceed 20knots, and resets when you fall below that speed. But GPS speed information is notoriously spotty; it can report some small number for a split second, or the signal could be weak and we get no information for a few seconds. So it's possible for it to reset in flight (but unlikely). Also, if you reboot your unit in flight you will lose the duration and start over.

So, we have a totally new Time feature on the books for a future release. It will support manually starting/stopping, alarms, history, and other neat things that have been suggested.

Hope this helps,
Walter

Thanks Walter,

That does help. Some of us have had to be dragged kicking and screaming into the 21st century. I go out of flying for a few years and now find that the GPS replaced my sectional, ruler and e6b.....now I've gotten a taste of the electronic world so a timer would make life even easier.....not that its a necessary item...just cool.

Thanks

Frank

I just made my first and second long flight with the IFly. The first from Auburn Washington to Sullivan lake and the second the return 6 hours flying through the Gorge stopping at Deer Park and Yakima for fuel on the return.

Today I was hoping to find there was a history of these fights in the Ifly. I am mildly disappointed that this feature is not there.

However I am greatly pleased that you plan to incorporate the feature of a history of the flight times
