Regarding iFly's Nearest feature tapping into the glide ratio: Some time ago I suggested in the wish list a feature where optionally iFly is showing one's glide ration perimeter right on the sectional with a colored modified circle. Then at a glance at any moment you can see (with the usual qualifiers of "that depends") the outer limits of your glide options and be constantly seeing the answer to that usually present implied question of "could I make it to THAT field if engine quit right now?" I say modified circle perimeter because it's only a perfect circle over level over flat level ground in all directions and no wind. iFly CAN adjust the perimeter for differences in terrain height as it always has the terrain elevation at every point. (In a unrelated post over in wishlists I suggest that iFly actually can be in close to real time be calculating the wind direction and speed that the aircraft is currently flying in) That all said, I'd be pretty happy with just having a simple case perfect circle glide radius option showing on the sectional as I fly. Anyone thing it's worth resurrecting the "please give us a glide radius perimeter" in wish list? Alex

I think it would be nice to have, but would be a monumental programming challenge to do it very precisely. I think it would also require quite a bit of computer capacity. Some of the issues I can think of include:

1. Where would iFly get the winds aloft information for all the altitudes at all of your locations along your route of flight and how would this information be updated?

2. iFly would need to calculate altitude loss due to making a turn to an airport behind vs an airport straight ahead.

3. iFly would need to compensate not only for airport elevations, but any terrain or obstacle between you and the airport.

4. All of this information is constantly changing based on your present location that is also constantly changing.

5. And on and on. I just think the task would be too complicated. That said, a circle based on altitude, airport elevation, and glide ratio might be very doable.

If anyone is interested, I' installed a Trio Avionics EZ Pilot (Auto pilot) in my Cessna 172N about five years ago and it is coupled to my Ifly 740 with ADSB. What a great combination. I don't have the Altitude Hold feature on my installation but the GPS tracker and Heading Hold works great!!! I would love it if they got a STC to make it legal. The combination of the EZ Pilot and the 740 takes all the stress off on cross country flights. I have weather, traffic, sectional map, hands free flying, what more could you ask for? Just thought I'd let you know it can be done.. John S.

John,
We are working on the Trio STC as I write this. Cessnas will be first to be included, followed by PA-28's. Eventually, virtually all GA aircraft will be included. (That's our plan). Implementation date is by Airventure. I will have my PA28 on display at Sun n Fun. It's an awesome system! And very reasonably priced.

John,

Using the your Trio in the tracker mode, what is the max cross track error you typically see?

Thanks
