Life in an RV-8 can make reflections and brightness a challenge. The 740 has made huge progress, but I find the yellow color for traffic to be a poor choice.

It would seems red would provide more contrast, especially in vector mode. As it stands the black, flashing outline is the only good part of the yellow traffic icon that helps catch the eye.

George,

We currently use the ADS-B standard of Cyan (Aqua), Yellow, and Red for alert status. Have you tried to add the High Contrast Traffic Instrument? I like it as I set the visibility to unlimited distance and +/-3500 vertically. Then on the Traffic Instrument I set it to 5nm of distance, so when traffic shows on the Radar inst, I know I should be able to get a visual on it. Otherwise, typically traffic that is over 5nm away and over +/-3500 feet is not much of a concern.

There may be an opportunity to outline, solid shade or even shadow the icon more to up the contrast. We want to keep the colors as part of the ADSB standard the FAA has set, so there is less industry confusion. We'll keep an ear out for any issues here. Thanks for your feedback and honesty.

I have commented before about the poor contrast for traffic. I just completed a flight in my RV-6A to WV and back to Clearwater, FL. I use my 740 for most of my navigation, but I keep another EFB on my iPad, because the traffic depiction is so much easier to see, even with the poor iPad screen. WingX uses small black airplanes and FlyQ uses black boxes. (SkyguardTWX for ADS-B).

(Would not take anything for my 740!)

Didn't realize there were standards, but a thicker /flashing outline might help. At least I feel better knowing I'm not the first to notice this and this is maybe even 740 related as I never had a problem with my other unit.

I flew with a 720 recently to compare it with my 740. It seems the possibly the lack of contrast might be related to the wonderful brightness of the 740. It is like a good news, bad news thing. In a back to back comparison, the traffic icon was more obvious on the 720 screen. This comparison was done in the same airplane, so I think it is relevant. Not sure what a solution might be, other than possibly the thicker black surround.
