This might be little late, but 3m has a producl line called "VHB." For "Very High Bonding," I guess. It is sold to consumers as various flavors of "mounting tape." If you search "3M Mounting Tape" and look at the pictures you will see items from this line. The stuff I am talking about is a clear ribbon of adhesive (no actual tape) sold on a roll with a red separation film marked "3M VHB" on the back side. I have bought it at office supply stores and at Walmart.
The stuff is magic. Applied to carefully cleaned surfaces it adheres and doesn't let go. This is in sharp contrast to the foam-type doulbe-stick 3M tape, where the foam deteriorates over time.
3M also sells a VHB where the adhesive ribbon is gray. I have not tried this version.
For plastic, just clean the surfaces carefully and make sure they're dry. For using the stuff on glass or metal I clean the surfaces and then wipe them lightly with lacquer thinner or a similar solvent, applying the VHB while the surface is still damp. I don't know if this is necessary but it can't hurt.
