My iFly is attached to a RAM mount clamped to the glare shield. Its a great location for it in my RV-9A and I like everything about it except one thing. When I remove the iFly to take it home to update it, the double ended ball joint falls off the RAM mount as soon as I get the iFly free. I debated about growing a third arm, which would be an elegant solution to this and about 250 other problems but my wife nixed the idea. Fortunately, Ernie Bryant (another iFly owner) happened to ride with me one day, and he poised a solution that my wife didn't nix.
He said to use a small, wide rubber band around the socket end of the adapter where it attaches to the RAM mount and my problems would be solved. Sure enough, Ernie's a genius...or at least in this instance. My wife gave me a rubber band that previously held celery stalks together from the grocery story and I "installed" it per Ernie's suggestion and the adapter that holds the iFly to the RAM mound now stays put when I remove the iFly to update it.
I am sure there are other similar solutions that would work and might look better but this fix isn't visible until you're removing the iFly and its free (name another aviation fix that's free!) and you no longer need a third arm to catch the connector when it drops.
Its a small fix for a small irritant and IMO it makes life just a tiny bit better for free.
