You are probably seeing the echo of yourself as part of the ads-r OR you have ads-b out. Both will result in seeing the echo of yourself just a little offset. Usually it looks like a plane chasing me from behind and about 100' low. But it shows my n number on the wingx display.

Correct,

I've actually recommended that we exclude the entered tail number or any plane within 100 feet or so and within 100 feet altitude, and flying at the same speed and relative direction off the alerts or display. This would likely only occur if you were flying a pattern and using an ADS-B out. It would be relatively safe to filter such close traffic.

I was told by an ADS-B manufacturer that you are seeing the N number because your ADS-B out is transmitting it to TIS-B (ground), then your receiver is pick up the TIS-B broadcast with the N-Numbers. Basically getting you position twice. N-numbers are not transmitted Air-to-Air on either 978 out or 1090 out. They typically are only seen when being read from the TIS-B ground station. I hope this helps.

I had the same problem on my first flight with the Skyradar/iFly 720. The picture shows the ghost plane following close behind and the Alert button illuminated. It intermittently disappeared and reappeared throughout the flight. I hope this issue gets resolved soon.

Shane: I am curious about the display of traffic on the iFly. I notice that images of traffic by software running on laptops or other tablets display the traffic's N-number adjacent to an outline of an aircraft. However, when I see images of the iFly traffic display, all I see is a colored triangle with a heading line. I think knowing the other aircrafts' N-numbers could be very useful for communications. Is the N-number shown in a pop-up alert box on the iFly? Also, I wonder if an aircraft icon would be more readily noticed and more intuitive, rather than picking out colored triangles against a map background. Your thoughts, please? Is there any thought of changing the basic traffic display in the future? Is there an audible alert for traffic when the warning pops up? Just curious. Thanks, ====Ralph

Just to add to the discussion about a ghost airplane. With a full in/out ADSB, the Transponder has a hardwire out that communicates with the ADSB unit. The transponder "talks-to" the ADSB unit and lets it know the transponder code being sent. The ADSB has another connecting wire that controls the transmit function of the transponder and can automatically suppress the transmit function, although I am not sure what the criteria for suppresstion is. The ADSB system will recognize that my transponer signal and my ADSB signal are from the same airplane. In some cases it may even suppress the transponder signal.

In a passive system which is for receiving mostly weather and ocassionally traffic, it does not have a transmit funtion nor does it talk-to the transponder. Your transponder is sending out a radar location oblivious to everything else. That information is sent over to the ADSB system which transmits all the aircraft locations for the area. It just blasts them all out. Thus your Ifly unit displays all the airplanes in the area which includes your airplane. So you are receiving all the traffic it just happens that the iFly unit is displaying you too as traffic.

If Adventure Pilot puts a filter in there I would suggest it be an option to turn the traffic filter on and off. Since in a rare circumstance it could be another aiplane close to you. The pilot can make their own judgements of what to display.

My 2 cents.

Dave
