I never got the red screen until software version 7 was installed. I did just discover that one of the alternators had two bad diodes and was causing enough AC volts on the bus to cause the ESHI to twitch a few degrees. When I shut off the alternator, the twitch went away. But I still had the red screen with that alternator shut off as we flew another 10 hours or so with just one alternator. I have just updated to the 7.0.19 software and am waiting for the new alternator to show up before I can fly again. Hopefully teh new software and no twitch alternator will cure the red screens. As the other poster stated, I am losing my confidence in the 700 as I previously have had screen freeze ups; once in very compromising airspace.

Make sure you have good CLEAN power and good connection. The power plug into the iFly unit seems to be a bit weak.

I love my 700!

I’ll try to keep this short. I have an airplane that I acquired from my dad. It’s a CH-601-HDS-TD, it has a bubble canopy. I first used the Gar**n 196 which used a yoke type mount attached to the instrument panel which I thought had a good view of the sky. Once in awhile it would lose GPS. After some time troubleshooting I found the problem.

Dad had applied some sort of ‘paint’ for a sun shade, I think it was shoe polish. This was causing the problem with losing the GPS signal. As soon as I started using a remote GPS antenna I’ve never had the GPS lose the signal again.

For those of you losing signal, I would try the remote GPS antenna first.

PS Who here was it that I met for a minute that had the 720, I have the 700, at GEU for the FAAST seminar on Summer Flying last Saturday, the 4th?

I do not doubt the wisdom dispersed here, but I would like to re-iterate that my outages happened in-flight at random times and places. I never got a "red screen" nor any other indication other than "GPS Lock Lost" or somesuch. Each and every time, it recovered without re-boot.

Bob

That's what I was trying to say in my previous post also, my gps outage was random. I bought my 700 without the remote antenna (because I thought I had the MCX connector for the antenna). Once or twice I lost gps signal, so I ordered the antenna. I haven't a problem since.

With you having a high wing, I would suspect you need an attenna that you can put up on the glare shield.
