Also, it is not required to use the GPS antenna that comes with the SkyRadar. This is really only needed if you using the SkyRadar with a laptop or iPad as those device need a GPS antenna. Hope this help. Alexey said to make sure the SkyRadar antenna is at least 5 inches away from your compass, though I might suggest more if you are going to us it. Just know that is it not needed with the iFly.

Flew with the Skyradar yesterday for the first time. Everything worked but I couldn't check the Nexrad, there was no wx within 1000 miles of Ohio. Today, there was wx down by Cincinnati but it didn't show up on the IFly and I also couldn't get winds aloft from any station. According to the IFly,it was receiving all of the supported wx functions.

Ken:

Where in Ohio were you flying that you got ADS-B signals?

I rigged up the whole system, went up in the air, turned on both devices simultaneously, ,and voilá, IT WORKED! Of course, as some of you already reported, yesterday we had clear skies over most of eastern United States (I am based in North Georgia) with the exception of some scattered storms in western Kentucky that my Nextrad readily picked up as green and yellow bands. Fantastic! Now the challenge is to use this incredible piece of information judiciously and not let it modify our weather related decision making process.

The USB cable is a non issue, I temporarily installed a cheap retractable one that I used in the past with my previous Blackberry. The standard is 5 pin on the miniport side and 4 on the large standard port side that connects to the Ifly GPS. I believe the fifth contact is internally bridged to ground and this is the standard wiring in all cables with this topology. USB is a standard and everyone does it the same way. Next weekend I'll install the unit under the dash with the remote antenna so I can conceal all the cable clutter.

JTB

That's great! Now we are getting somewhere. Would you be so kind as to post any and all information on the set up like your ifly S#, age, anything you did special to update it for the skyradar? How about a screen shot of what the wx looks like on the ifly? I'm a bit (make that a lot) color blind and hope the contrast will be good enough for me to see.

This helps make it very close to making my name firm for buy #2. Thanks for the post.

(if I had just had this back when I was flying checks in the Aztec I would have missed half my trips)
