So, in the Settings Menu, there is a check box option for "Attempt Internet weather while in-flight." It sounds obvious what it does, but I just want to make sure. And to learn why I would use it, were it an option for my equipment.
I've got ADS-B now thanks to Stratux. That obviously updates the weather. If I were to enable "Attempt Internet wx," does that stop ADS-B from updating the weather? Or does it merely establish a priority? Internet wx first and then, if not available, ADS-B weather?
I am guessing that the purpose of the check box is to allow those with a cell phone (or other?) data connection to update the weather in-flight via Internet? Perhaps for weather products not yet supplied by ADS-B? (Like Winds Aloft.) Or for those rare occasions where a data connection is available but ADS-B is not?
In essence, I don't understand why this option exits in the first place. Does iFly purposely NOT try to update the weather via Internet while in-flight?
I assumed that iFly always tries to update the weather via Internet, but just doesn't do it in flight because I don't have an Internet connection. For example, I've noticed that I can update NEXRAD using my FBO's Wi-Fi while taxing past my FBO on the way to the runway. I'm moving but I'm on the ground. Does iFly consider that "in-flight"? But now that I bought a cheap smart phone, I can tether Internet data to my tablet, if needs be. I presume that I could not update the wx in-flight via tethering unless I enable this? Is it to prevent conflicts between Internet and ADS-B wx? I don't understand.
