PS...in both cases the file size was 7254k that was deleted and reinstalled.

I can repeat this on a Windows laptop and three different Android devices. On all 4, I have only TX, LA, FL, and AL data loaded. (I also tried loading GA on one device to see if that would fill in the gap, but it didn't change the behavior.)

The missing map effect occurs with Map Mode set to "IFR Low", at zoom levels that show L-18 or L-22. (Zoom out to "Composite", and the chart data is present; zoom in to where "Composite" changes to "L-18" (or L-22 if you're scrolled far enough south), and the chart data vanishes.)
