It Works!!!!

Would have worked sooner had I realized that I had the AV-IN set as PAL instead of NTSC. Once I corrected that - the camera worked. As mentioned above - the camera I got from Adventure Pilot is in fact a rear view (Mirroring) camera. So when mounted looking forward - right is on the left and left is on the right. Not very useful. I think I do have a use for that CAM...maybe I can set it up to show me where I've been instead of where I am going.

I dug through my stash of camera ( I fly FPV RC planes and Helis). I chose the RMRC-420XV 420 Line 5-15V CCD Camera (NTSC) camera. It is small and it runs on 12vdc. Plugged it into the IFly R-CAM port. Nothing happened. Plugged it into the AV-IN port and it works like a charm. RIght is right and left is left - how nice. I will post pictures tomorrow of the installation on my Pietenpol.

If you are looking for a camera - any of the above suggestions are good as well as pretty much any 12vdc color camera. Amazon has a large selection of 12vdc cameras. The trick is getting the cabling right. I finally ended up using a cable I found in the junk box - it is a 1/8" 4-pole male connector with the correct polarities (See IFly Extra Features Manual). The trick here is NOT to get hung up on Yellow always being video. On my cable - it turned out to be the red rca jack that had the needed connectivity as stated in the manual. Use an Ohm meter to test your cables. The RCA end can be red, green, blue, black, yellow or any other color. Just make sure its pinned right.

I am curious as to why the R-CAM port would not work. I am even more curious about what difference does it make which port you use as long as get video.

Good Luck,

Jim

Jim,

Were you just using the video and ground contact rings on your four connector plug, or did you have any lead going to the tip of the plug; identified in the manual as the camera sensor? I haven't gotten around to connecting a camera in my Cardinal yet, but I suspect that this might be the control contact that automaticly changes the screen over to the camera mode when a signal is present.

BTW, I fly FPV as well....

Jim,

The tip does need power as the Camera sensor. You are correct, the power is what activates the Remote Camera Override. If the camera signal does not output the power, only the video, then it won’t ever activate the Remote Camera Mode and it would need to be used with the AV-In.

Shane,

Thanks.... I didn't pick up on the tip needing power.

(1) Is it 12vdc (wont that cause problems inside the IFLY?)
(2) Does the R-CAM port clean up the right is left and left is right display issues? See Wit's post on Oct 19.
Or do I need to get a backup Camera that has a non-mirroring mode to clean up the righ is righ and left is left issue?

If R-CAM won't clean this up .... then I am happy with just using the AV-IN port.

Maybe I'm all messed up but if the left and right are backwards, what would happen if you put the camera in upside down ?

Would that put the left and right on the opposite side?

I'm not sure if my brain is working properly or not.

Terry
