Hi everyone, I've had my iFly for just under a year and I'm learning more and more about it on every flight. Recently I brought it home to do an update and I noticed that the battery was completely dead when I plugged it in. I then charged it during the updates overnight and the next day the battery was low. I checked out the charging cable, etc. but realized that the internal battery appears to not be holding a charge. I'm wondering if they are replaceable or if anyone else has only gotten a year out of theirs before replacing it.

Thanks,

Paul

My experience with my 740b is that the internal battery is good for, at best, 15 minutes.  It's just long enough for you to switch from the connection in your plane to an external portable battery (such as this:  https://amazon.com/Portable-Universal...ef=sr_1_fkmr2_2).   Or, I simply shutdown my 740b, put it in its case, slip it into my flight bag, toss it in the car and plug it into its adapter power plug when I get home.

Paul, which iFly device are you using?  (If I recall correctly, only the 500-whateveritwas had a built-in battery, so I'm guessing that's what you have.)

Rechargeable battery life is one of life's little disappointments.  It might just be "one of those things"...

The 740 has an internal battery.  Mine seems to work for 20 minutes or so, if it's fully charged.  Although that's when it was new.  Haven't tested it lately.

While the 740 does technically have an internal battery, it is not designed to allow normal usage for an extended period of time.  Rather, AP advertises it as a "Built-In Emergency Battery", which allows the device to be operated long enough that it can be transferred to another power source if the primary source fails.  For example, if its current power source fails (ships power goes offline, or the external battery it's plugged into goes dead) then you have a couple of minutes to grab a spare external battery out of your flight bag, unwrap the cord for it, and plug it into the iFly.

I'm not very familiar with the 5xx device (no longer listed for sale), but I think it was the only iFly device that's ever been offered with an internal battery that was intended to be the primary power supply for the device in normal use.
