I'm actually using the low res downloads since I use the vector map 99% of the time, but even when using the low res version, the sectional is pretty crisp for me on my iPad Mini 5. It looks like you're using the app in landscape, which isn't my default so I thought maybe it was something to do with that, but I can't duplicate an issue so far.

Tool man, I gotta disagree, if you click on the photos in the links (they are compressed previews) the resolution will increase for both.  But you will still see an improvement in the flyq render.

I did install it on my ipad mini (1st gen - 1024x768), and it does look sharper even though it is a lower resolution display.  I gotta suspect there is some kind of software issue that prevents image smoothing on the ipad pro 10.5 (2,224 x 1,668).  I did switch to the phone mode and no improvement.  Perhaps the issue is the scaling of the aspect ratio?

Yes, I can clearly (hah) see a difference between those two snaps, and the iFly image is far lower-res.  Something is not right...that is *not* how the maps render for me.  Pixellization is not apparent on sectionals for me until I am zoomed several levels closer in than your screenshots.

I will say that you are correct regarding the approach plates not being PDFs.  I'm not sure why that is, but I suspect it may be a legacy compatibility issue.  iFly started out on a custom WinCE platform, and I suspect that embeddded PDF support may have been hard to implement in that device.  Regardless, even though "infinite zoom" (like you can do with most PDFs) is not possible, again the resolution of those files is quite high, and pixellization is not really apparent until zoomed in farther than there's any practical need.

Here are examples of what various zooms look like for me, both for the sectional view and for an approach plate.  (I tried to duplicate your zoom level, but couldn't get it exact, so took the next closer zoom level, then another shot four zoom levels further in.)  The link takes you to a thumbnail, but click on the image and it will expand to full resolution.

Note:  These screenshots were taken from a Windows PC running at 3200x1800 resolution (it's what I had handy at the time), but there's comparable clarity on my Android tablets at 2048x1536 (which is equivalent to iPad mini resolution and not too far off from the 10.5" iPad Pro's 2224x1668).

We have had to make some comprimises to maintain multi-platform compatability.  Generally speaking I believe our charts are excellent and very usable, whether on a phone, tablet, iFly device, windows, etc.  But, a high-end tablet with a super-high res display and a high-end GPU can do things our app doesn't yet support.  On the other hand, our app doesn't require you to keep upgrading your hardware when new releases come out.  So there are pros and cons.

But this is not the end of the story.  We have plans for an upgrade next year that will blow some minds.  More to come on this story...but it's too early for details

Thanks for checking in, I was hoping for some insight from a staff member. I was impressed to see that the app works (exceedingly well) on an original iPad mini, which to be honest has otherwise become a paperweight. Speaks volumes to your design philosophies in the age of overt obsolescence planning.

I’ll keep tuned in to see what comes next.  Thanks again for your reply
