Hello,

When I take off my 520 with the ping buddy works well for a few minutes showing all traffic and weather.  Then after a couple minutes I loose all traffic and I get a message that says "tower idle" and no more traffic for the rest of the flight.  This also seems to happen when I try and inhibit the warnings that keep popping up.

Any suggestions?  I love it when it's working, but just need to keep it on for the whole flight.

I have the same problem with the "Ping for iFly" (the USB version) on my 720. After flying around my local tower, I finally tried a reboot and the Ping worked again for a few minutes before sending the "Idle" alert followed by "Out of Range". I reported this problem about 2 weeks ago and was notified that the problem has been fixed and we should be getting a new software release soon (hopefully this week).

Thanks for the info John.  It would be nice to hear something from the company as well regarding this issue if it is know by them.  It's effectively useless until then.

Alan, I downloaded the latest iFly software ver 9.8.11 today, but won't be able to test it for a few days. This update claims to fix our problem.

Correct, the latest version will fix your issue.

This is what's going on: if enough towers and traffic are coming in the bandwidth can be saturated, and some data can be lost (even in extreme situations this is usually <1%, so this is a benign issue).  But the iFly had some unrelated logic to close & re-open the serial port when bad data was detected.  But we found the Ping device doesn't recover from having the port closed.  So it was a simple fix: We just don't do that for ping receivers.

Sorry you had to wait for an official answer.  The forum's are not monitored as much if we're really busy, you can always contact support if you need a fast answer.

Thanks!
Walter
