Good evening AP and forum visitors,

I am considering purchasing the Skyguard TWX Pro Plus UAT for my 1965 Piper Cherokee 140. I wondered if any of my fellow I-Fly users have purchased this system and installed it or use it in a Cheroke? I am interested in how it would be configured in the cockpit and how antennas would be placed. My thought is that I would install the unit in the floor of my baggage compartment and then place the antennas in the windscreen but I don't know if the cables are long enough. I could use some suggestions, pictures would be outstanding. Thanks to all.

Sam --- I can't help you with the Cherokee, but I have the standard Skyguard TWX in my RV-6A ------ however, you might want to re-think your purchase decision. I am ditching my "non-compliant" Skyguard and have purchased a Navworx 600 EXP. You can't use the EXP, but their 600B model can be installed in certified aircraft. If you look at the price difference between the Skyguard Pro and the Navworx 600B, which is 2020 compliant, you may want to go with the Navworx, and not have to worry about the future compliance issue.

Best of luck,

Ron

I mount mine on the hat-rack in my Beech Sierra. I don't think the antenna or GPS cable is long enough to make it to my glareshield from the baggage area. They changed the GPS unit on this device in the past few months, so it's a different connector now. Previously it was using a PS2 connector and I used an extension cable to mount the GPS on the glare shield. I could probably do this with the new GPS, but so far I haven't found that to be necessary. As it stands I just have the unit and all the antennas on the hat-rack, next to the windows and haven't had any problems so far.

Ron,

I have considered the Navworx unit also and I may end up going that way if I can't find any more assuring data that would suggest that the Skyguard will eventually be fully compliant. I'm like lots of others, watching the market to see if prices will reduce more.

Challenged,

Thanks for the reply. I don't have a hat rack unfortunately so I would have to place the units in the floor of the baggage compartment. I'll do some more research on the idea.

Sam
